A few notary colleagues have recently encountered clients who have been told by agencies in the US that their document can only be notarised at the US Embassy in London. If true, this would be very costly and time-consuming.
It is not true! The US Embassy web site makes clear that documents for the US need notarising by an English Notary Public (they also mention solicitors, but in England solicitors are not authorised to notarise documents).
Anyone who is faced with this sort of request should speak to an English notary public, who will correct any misapprehension on the part of our colleagues in the United States. Every state in the US accepts documents sealed by an English Notary Public.
